Personal Lubricants
While sexual lubricants are commonly used today to eliminate friction during sexual activities, few people know their true origins and purpose. Sexual lubricants (also known as personal lubricants) were originally derived from surgical lubricants used for various medical procedures, including gynecological exams and other procedures. These days, there are a wide variety of sexual lubricants available on the market for personal use, and include both scented and flavored varieties to add a little extra spice to any romantic rendezvous.
What Are The Different Types of Lubricants?
Usually, water-based lubricants are the most popular type of personal lubricant because they are easy to use and highly effective at easing otherwise painful sexual activities. Additionally, these lubricants tend to be less irritating than other types and are much easier to wash off the body afterwards. When water-based lubricants first became available for personal use, they were marketed as cellulose solutions. A lubricant such as Moist Personal Lube works well, and additional water can always be added if a product dries out too quickly. The added dose of water is typically enough to reactivate the lubricant. The only downside to water-based lubricants are that they cannot be used during sexual activities that take place in water, because the product can break down or dissolve which renders the lubricant ineffective. In these instances, you may want to use an oil-based or "specialty" lubricant, although water-based lubes are preferred over any other.
What Can I Use Lubricant For?
While lubricants were originally designed for medical procedures, the product has evolved considerably since then and many have found using a personal lubricant during sexual activities can heighten the experience and ease friction. Activities such as anal sex, or vaginal sex when a woman is dry can be enhanced by using personal lubricants to reduce pain and friction. Additionally, most products can be used to lubricate certain kinds of sex toys, the penis, the vagina and the anus.
